USAID "handshake" Coca-Cola to improve energy efficiency in Vietnam

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Gloria Steele, Deputy Director of the USAID Asia said, although benefiting from growth but Vietnam are also experiencing a rise in energy consumption, mostly energy from fossil fuels, is one of the root causes of global climate change.

She said the support of USAID to encourage clean energy policies and strengthen market incentives and public-private partnerships to help accelerate the adoption of renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency in Vietnam.

In the framework of this partnership, USAID and Coca-Cola Vietnam will cooperate to develop combined heat and power systems using renewable energy for the industrial base, including Coca-Cola Vietnam, to optimize resources renewable energy, while reducing the use of electricity produced from fossil fuels.

USAID-side models also share the application of renewable energy success and best practices on energy efficiency from the Coca-Cola Vietnam and other industrial partners, thereby improving the capacity and skills clean energy development for professionals and managers in the energy industry production enterprises of small and medium-sized.

One of the first collaborative activities that USAID technical assistance to help Coca-Cola Vietnam installation of solar panels on the roof of Coca-Cola plant in Ho Chi Minh City to meet at least 20 % electricity needs of the plant.

Mr. Nguyen Van Decision, supply chain director of Coca-Cola Vietnam share, at Coca-Cola Vietnam, now committed to growing the business in a sustainable manner and demonstrate that commitment through a variety of sustainable energy programs.

Accordingly, the Company will use natural gas and biomass energy for all manufacturing plants to reduce energy consumption from fossil fuels, or the application of solar energy systems for process heaters hot water.

"The relationship with USAID cooperation would be a typical example of public-private relations in the field of energy efficiency in Vietnam," said Nguyen Van Decision.
