The winning enterprises was the most outstanding projects of more than 300 initiative projects sent to the contest, for having proved the positive effects of technologies on green growth and building a low-carbon economy in Vietnam. They will be financially supported by the Vietnam Climate Innovation Centre (VCIC) and enjoy its initiative incubation services, aiming to identify their business models and commercialise their products.
Addressing the event, MOST Minister Chu Ngoc Anh noted that climate change has been attracting increasing attention from the international community, with Vietnam considered one of the five most vulnerable countries to global climate change.
The Vietnamese government has been implementing a number of policies and action programmes over the past years, seeking to strengthen national climate change resilience and adaptation capability, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy use efficiency in industries, Anh said.
He expressed his hope that the VCIC would create a cornerstone of incubation services and startup supports, aiming to help enterprises define their business models and commercialise products against climate change.
As one of five countries that will be most affected by climate change, Vietnam has received the approval of the international community in the struggle to cope with climate change. The international community already has many practical actions by technical assistance projects, investment projects to strengthen policies and infrastructure to cope with climate change for Vietnam.
According to Acting WB Country Director for Vietnam Achim Fock, Vietnamese businesses are in the most suitable position to provide innovative solutions to climate change, because above all, they clearly understand the difficulties, challenges and potentials of their own localities, thereby coming up with relevant initiatives to improve the local economy and create more employment.

Under the Ministry of Science and Technology, VCIC is part of the Technology Development Program to Respond to Climate Change of the World Bank Group with the aim of establishing a network connection 7 central Innovation Application dealing with climate change worldwide.
VCIC is funded by the Australian Government and the Department for International Development (UK) helps businesses raise capital, capacity building and the provision of financial services, consulting and training for enterprise green technology in 5 key areas: energy efficiency, information technology, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and water resource management.
Launched last year, the VCIC aims to assist 48 local clean-tech businesses within its first three years of operations, expanding access to new and improved climate-smart products and services to over 1,700 households.
Ministry of Science and Technology hopes, will form the foundation VCIC incubation, to help businesses identify business models, commercialization of products to respond to climate change.
