Dak Nong: Promote cleaner production of hi-tech coffee
07/11/2017
On July 5, the People's Committee of Dak Nong Province held a conference to review the implementation and replication of high-tech coffee production models in the province in past years and orientation for the period 2017-2020.
According to the People's Committee of Dak Nong province, at present, there are nearly 3,300 models of cultivation and husbandry applying high technology, helping to improve economic efficiency and develop agriculture in a safe, sustainable and bring profitable way distinctly for farmers.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Ha, Director of Thuan An Agriculture Cooperative said that in the past, farmers have not paid much attention to clean coffee production in accordance with international standards. After applying, the cooperative shall transfer technology and regularly inspect and supervise the production of coffee according to Fairtrade procedures and standards and be strictly observed by its members.
In the past few years, the Central Highlands Agriculture, Forestry and Science Institute has applied new technology to seedling production to supply tens of thousands of good coffee seedlings every year for households, recultivate-coffee enterprises. The Central Highlands Agro-forestry and Agriculture Scientific and Technological Institute and enterprises are implementing many models of watering economically, drip irrigation combined with fertilizing through water for coffee trees with high economic efficiency being multiplied widely in the Central Highlands.
The irrigation water saving model at the coffee farm of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thai Ha family, group 8, Quang Phu town (Cu M'gar district) shows that in the dry season the family irrigated from 3 - 6 water sprinkles for coffee gardens, when irrigated with plastic pipes irrigated to each root, with average water volume of 600 liters / root / irrigation and labor intensive. However, after the installation of the irrigation system in the form of drip irrigation (irrigation in the dry season), the irrigation water volume for each coffee root is only 400-450 liters / root / irrigation.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thai Ha, although the amount of irrigation water is low, but the water supply of coffee trees grows well in the dry season, so the quality of the orchard is quite good.
Besides, the application of irrigation water saving model for coffee plants is not large (22 hectares of the farm but the irrigation system investment is only 50 million), but irrigation, fertilizer Irrigation system is always technical, not only saving water resources, labor but the ecological environment in the area is guaranteed ....
According to Dak Nong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province has about 20,000 hectares of coffee produced according to international standards and applying hi-technology; more concentrated in Dak R'lap, Dak Song, Dak Mil with about 15,000 households involved.
Thanks to the association of businesses or co-operatives and farmers through local governments or groups, production organization, hobbyists; sustainable coffee production areas in accordance with 4C, UTZ Certifield increasingly expanded. On the other hand, people have access to markets, selling coffee at higher prices, increasing production efficiency, and increasing income for coffee growers.
