Vietnam receives multi-million dollar support for its energy sector planning program
The highlight of the trip was the signing ceremony of the new Energy Cooperation Program for the period of 2017-2020, with a total technical assistance of DKK 21.6 million (about $ 3,5 million).
"The new Energy Cooperation Program will focus on energy sector planning, bringing renewable energy sources to the power system, and energy efficiency in the industry. All of these areas are closely linked to the strengths and experience of Denmark, "said Deputy Minister Thomas Egebo at the signing ceremony.
Another remarkable activity of the visit in Hanoi is the launch of the Vietnam Energy Outlook 2017. The report is a cooperation result between MOIT and the Danish Energy Agency, of which focuses on low carbon development scenarios with the contribution of renewable energy. The report also provides recommendations to policymakers on how to ensure energy security and cost-effectiveness and sustainable development. The report will be an important basis for the development of Vietnam's Comprehensive Energy Plan and Power Master Plan in the future.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Vice Minister Thomas Egebo attended the opening ceremony of the new Grundfos office in Vietnam. The new headquarters are an active development of Grundfos. The company is showing strong strides not only in sales from big customers, but also in community projects that bring clean water to thousands of households in Vietnam.
Since 1994, Denmark has spent more than $ 1.3 billion (non-refundable) to support Vietnam's development. Through this support, Denmark has contributed to the strong economic development in Vietnam.
In November 2011, Denmark signed a joint statement with the Vietnamese government to develop a strategic partnership in the areas of climate change, environment, energy and green growth, which continue supporting for the development and implementation of Vietnam's strategies, programs and action plans in the areas of climate change, environment, energy and green growth.
Denmark and Vietnam agree to encourage the use of Denmark's expertise and technology in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy, water, and waste treatment. Following that, Denmark has assisted Vietnam in the National Target Program for Energy Efficiency and Conservation with the goal of reducing 5-8% of total energy consumption.
One of the significant partnerships is the Low Carbon Transition in Energy Efficiency Proect in Vietnam (LCEE), a financial mechanism implemented from 2013 to 2017 to encourage the small and medium enterprises to invest in energy saving technology.
In 2013, Denmark and Vietnam sign a Comprehensive Cooperation agreement to further strengthen their strong cooperation in trade and green growth. Following that, the cooperation programs of Danish Ministry of Climate and Energy, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam have been set up to facilitate Denmark’s sharings on high-quality technology and experience in energy sector with Vietnamese managers and businesses.
