According to the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Industry (VAMI), over the last 10 years, revenue of mechanical products have increased by more than 20%. Many hi-tech mechanical products have also appeared such as hydrotecnics, equipment of cement plant, petroleum drilling rig, etc.

With tremendous practical value, the scientific project "Studying the detailed design and application of technology to manufacture, assemble and launch jack-up rig at 90m water depth suitable for Vietnam conditions" received the National Award, Ho Chi Minh Science and Technology Award in 2016. According to many experts, the most important thing in the successful development of a 90m petroleum self-raising rig (Tam Dao 03 And Tam Dao 05) mark the development, maturity stage of Vietnam’s engineering sector. From the place can only be manufactured so far, this industry has been able to design and execute the construction of petroleum rig. This achievement shows that the level, capacity, gray matter and working capacity of Vietnam is not inferior to other countries in the world.

However, shared at the workshop "New applications of equipment and new technology in mechanical products" organized by VAMI recently, the association's leaders also said, besides encouraging development step after many years of innovation, the added value of mechanical products is still low, there are still many weak mechanical enterprises.

VAMI Chairman Nguyen Van Thu said that in order to remove difficulties as well as increase the capacity of the mechanical industry, it is necessary to promote production cooperation among domestic mechanical enterprises and avoid duplication of investment to combat waste. Especially, increase investment and apply advanced science and technology equipment into production.

According to Mr. Duong Van Hong - General Director of Construction Machinery Corporation - COMA, for many years, the corporation has always paid attention to the application of new technologies, especially in the field of steel structure fabrication and non-standard equipment. COMA focuses on welding technologies such as TIG, MIG, MAG, electrolyte, etc. and buys new, state-of-the-art CNC cutting machines, machining centers for modern welding machines, etc. to serve the production, deployment of new precision and quality products.

In addition to self-improvement in equipment, technology in manufacturing, mechanics enterprises also find that the acquisition of new technologies through joint ventures, links with national and foreign companies in the design, fabrication of mechanical equipment is very necessary. Along with that, it is necessary to promote cooperation among domestic enterprises to jointly manufacture and localization of products better.
