Three proposals of Vietnam at COP 22

30/11/2016

In his speech, Deputy Minister VoTuan Nhan stressed that all Parties joining Paris Agreement shall make all their efforts to implement the commitments as set forth in this Agreement.

For Vietnam, he presented three important proposals before all the countries participating in COP 22.

First, the specific actions to strengthen the implementation of commitments after 2020 should be clarified by all parties to promote the implementation of the Convention. The content of the Agreement, including mitigation, adaptation, construction and technology transfer and capacity building must be fully considered.

Second, the nature of self-determination ofNationally Determined Contributions (NDCS) should be respected by providing guidelines and measures reflecting common responsibilities whileit should be differentiated and depended on specific circumstances and capacities of each developing country.

Third, we need a balance between mitigation efforts before and after the year 2020 to make it clear that there are no gaps in global efforts to cope with climate change.

"I surely confirm that Vietnam will do its best efforts along with international community to effectively implement Paris Agreement. Only by specific actions we can save the Earth.” Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhanconfirmed Vietnam's commitment in the fight to cope with climate change.

Being aware of the importance of implementation of Paris Agreement, Vietnam has built and issued Action Plan to carry out contributions to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change by the year 2030. It includes implementing the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 8% compared to the conventional scenarios usingdomestic resources and increase to 25% if getting comprehensive support of the international community.
