This subject was discussed at a workshop on “Building an eco-friendly recycling society” recently held in Ho Chi Minh City by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Support Center 2 (SMEDEC 2) under the media sponsorship of the Industry and Trade Review.

According to experts, recycling and reusing wastes is one of important solutions to save natural resources and protect the environment that has been implemented in many countries worldwide but it has not really developed in Vietnam.

Before this situation, SMEDEC 2 under the Directorate for Standard, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Taiwan Green Productivity Foundation (TGPF) on the issue of training, research and development, transfer of technology, technique and equipment used in the field of green productivity.

Under the MOU, the Chinese Taipei experts will come to Vietnam to share experiences on waste management and recycling; electronic waste disposal technology and plastic waste management technology.

Director General of the STAMEQ Ngo Quy Viet said that the cooperation between two sides would help Vietnamese organizations and enterprises access Chinese Taipei investors and apply the knowledge and experience into their recycling operations, contributing to fulfilling Vietnam’s commitments like what Deputy Minister Pham Binh Minh addressed at the UN Climate Change Summit in late September this year.

Director of SMEDEC 2 Pham Le Cuong said “We believe that we can connect Chinese Taipei and Vietnamese enterprises through trade promotion, investment as well as transfer of technology, technique and equipment used in the field of green productivity and the signed memorandum is aimed to realize this goal.”

As for TGPF, Deputy Chief Executive of TGPF Chi Ta Chang said after the MOU was signed, Chinese Taipei organizations and businesses will visit and work with the Southern Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment and a number of businesses in the recycling sector in Ho Chi Minh City. “This is only the initial step because in the imminent future we will continue to cooperate with Vietnam on a wide range of areas related to green and sustainable production.”, Chi Ta Chang added./.
