Hanoi: Promote the development of science and technology in industry

In order to implement the Plan on National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2011-2020, with a vision to 2050, Hanoi set the city’s goals that the product percentage of high-tech and green-tech industries in GRDP is 42-45% or more, 100% of the new manufacturing and business facilities apply environmentally friendly technologies or equip waste treatment devices complying with environmental standards; over 80% of existing manufacturing and business facilities comply with environment standards, 100% of industrial zones, processing zones and industrial clusters are equipped with centralized wastewater treatment systems complying with national technical standards and regulations. 
In order to achieve the above objectives, Hanoi has set out a number of key measures, including promoting scientific research and application of green technology in industrial manufacturing.
Dr. Le Xuan Rao, Director of Hanoi Department of Science and Technology said that research schemes and projects of the city focus primarily on research and application of new technologies, new products, environmental treatment, etc. In the last 5 years, Hanoi Department of Science and Technology has verified 115 investment projects in term of technology in natural resource and environment fields. There are investment projects with large scale and advanced technologies such as: Bac Thang Long - Van Tri wastewater treatment plant, Yen So wastewater treatment plant with capacity of 200.000m3/day; The investment project to build waste treatment plant in Dong Ke (Chuong My district); Nam Son Waste Treatment Factory with capacity of 2,000 tonnes/day, etc.
In addition, Hanoi has inaugurated Center for Research, technology transfer and assessment with largest scale in Vietnam, located in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, with a total investment of 600 billion VND.
With modern research and production model, the Centre is expected to give birth to high-tech products to serve economic- society development of the capital. The technology areas are going to be studied, delivered and evaluated including: mechanical engineering technology, electronic- automation technology, energy-saving technologies and environmental technologies. One of the topics that the Center focus on is research and production of solar cells with high efficiency and small size. Under the plan, the solar power of the Center is expected to be integrated to the National Grid in 2020.
Cooperation on technology incubator, business incubator and fostering high-quality human resources for the capital is also paid attention. In 2016, Project on regular technology exchange center in Xuan La Ward, Tay Ho District is expected to be completed, in which technology incubator zone will be the area to support ideas, research results to form good patents, technology products with high scientific and practice concentration.
Mr. Le Xuan Rao said that, in the future, Hanoi will focus on promoting strengths of the capital, especially in taking advantages of intellectuals, continuing to enhance the quality and efficiency of S & T activities and contributing to restructure the economy towards green growth and ensure rapid and sustainable economic – social development of the capital.
