Mr. Julien Brun, General Director, CEL Consulting with 13 years of Lean experience shared his experience in implementing Lean in Europe and in Vietnam. In his presentation, Mr. Julien Brun talked about the status of Vietnam’s enterprises in their adopting Lean processes and gave his assessments for that: “Even though Lean has been adopted in many manufacturings and enterprises in many sectors such as footwear industry, textile industry, electrical industry, ect. Since more than 20 years till now, but they have not reached the results being as well as their expectation.”. According to statistics, there is only about 2% of all manufacturings and enterprises can adopt Lean successfully, while the rest could not meet the expected effect.
The fact that Vietnam’s manufacturings and enterprises have adopted Lean but they still have given worse results indicates that they have not had enough experiences, a clear target in each part of the process, a long-term plan and one more important thing is the focus and effort of the leaders and all of the employees. To be able to deploy Lean effectively, manufacturings and enterprises’s leaders need to have perseverance, setting clear objectives, specific to each implementation stage and in particular to the commitment and determination from leadership to the workforce. If the leaders of manufacturings and enterprises have not really understood Lean, it was very difficult to adopt Lean to the entire system, or they just can copy the Lean model of other companies without changing flexible to fit in their system. That will lead to the waste of time, waste of materials, make many kinds of hidden costs and reduce the efficiency of production and business.
obtained the remarkable effect while they adopt Lean because many of them adopting Lean like a kind of the cover or follow a trend but not making the core of Lean value. Most of manufacturings and enterprises only see the surface of Lean benefits such as streamlining, saving, the neat and clean; but they don’t understand how is the "lean enterprise" and they cannot use "lean thinking" effectively into their operation and management. In the domestic manufacturings and enterprises, Lean has been carried out by making widespread movement with many banners and slogans, forms, decorating the offices, ect. However, the truth is they actually does not change the core processes towards specific objectives, they can’t eliminate unnecessary waste in each part or give the practical effects to the production processes and businesses.
