The Vietnam Women's Union collaborated with the Vietnam Climate Innovation Centre (VCIC) to organise a ceremony in Hanoi, on June 24, to honour 51 creative ideas at the third Proof-of Concept (PoC) competition under the theme "Women and the future of green economy".
The event was attended by Party Central Committee members, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, along with representatives of ministries, departments, branches, business associations and domestic and international financial institutions.
Launched in January 2019, the third Proof-of Concept (PoC) competition aims select excellent ideas to help Vietnam cope with climate change challenges. In addition, the competition highlights the role of women in enterprises, creating opportunities for female owners to confirm their roles and positions in the green development of the country.
After running for four months, the competition attracted 741 ideas. This year’s winning ideas have met the requirements of innovation in technology or business models that can create products and services that would assist the response and adaptation to the challenges of climate change, while promoting women's participation and leadership in the innovation in response to climate change. They also have the potential for replication and to spread their effects on a large scale.
Among of them, 35 typical ideas of collectives and individuals will be supported by the Vietnam Women's Union; 16 excellent ideas will have the opportunity to fully access incubation services, the commercialisation of technology and business development by the VCIC.
On the same day, the Vietnam Women's Union coordinates with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) to organise the forum "Women and the future of green economy ".
At the forum, delegates focused on discussing the situation of the green economy in the context of global climate change; opportunities and challenges for women's participation; and benefits in the green economy. At the same time, the participants also analysed the current situation and provided experiences and solutions to enable women to participate in production and business in the green economy.
