Minister of Natural Resources and Environment: Vietnam chooses a sustainable development approach

On the morning of October 7, at the online ministerial-level meeting, the 4th Asia-Pacific Forum of Ministers and Environmental Authorities, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha affirmed, Vietnam choose a sustainable and positive development approach in the direction of transforming a green economic and a circular economy model.

The session focused on the following topics: High-level dialogue on strengthening actions for nature to achieve sustainable development goals in the Asia-Pacific region; Report of senior officials and expected outcomes and approvement of the results of the 4th Asia-Pacific Forum of Ministers and Environmental Authorities.
Speaking at the session, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha said The 5th United Nations Environment Assembly Forum and Conference (UNEA5) and events COP26 UNFCCC and COP15 CBD took place in the context that the earth - our home is facing the most serious and vital challenges ever due to the crisis of climate, environment, natural ecology and especially the COVID-19 pandemic-19. This is a consequence of the unsustainable development model of people and all countries and ethnic groups are being "threatened".
Human living space is closely linked with nature, nature's health is human's health but they are destroying nature in certain forms, from overexploitation to irresponsible exploitation for a long time to serve economic purposes. Therefore, Minister Tran Hong Ha said that it is time to put the issue of natural restoration and ecosystems at the top of the agenda of diplomatic, political and economic forums; is the criterion and ethical standard in dealing with nature, at all levels from the top leaders to all people.
At the meeting, Minister Tran Hong Ha sent a message calling on countries to unite in thinking and awareness on issues related to the crisis of climate change and ecosystem collapse. Besides environmental policy and legal tools, issues of climate change, natural resource management and environmental protection need to be included as compulsory and decisive criteria in economic policies, in particular in the investment decisions of each project and development strategies from the local level; using comprehensive, synchronous solutions, combining with policy, financial, science and technology tools... for actions for nature through accelerating the transformation of ecological and economic models cycle on the basis of investment in natural capital, in balance with nature to replace the current model mainly based on exploitation of nature.
Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized, in the face of vital challenges, it is necessary to create revolutionary changes in awareness from the top level along with solidarity and joint action in a strong and urgent manner in all countries and all sectors including regulators, scientists, financial institutions and the business sector...
At the meeting, the Ministers and the Heads of the Mission reviewed the draft report of senior officials and the draft ministerial-level results to approve the contents of policy views and commitments in the Asia-Pacific to solve the theme "Strengthening actions for nature to achieve sustainable development goals in the Asia-Pacific region".
