On August 1, 2018, the Prime Minister issued the Decision 950/QD-TTg approving scheme for development of smart sustainable cities in Vietnam in the 2018 – 2025 period with orientations by 2030. The decision stipulates that by 2020 there will be at least 3 smart cities including Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City; Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong ... will be next localities to become smart cities.
Being one of cities which have been selected to pilot the smart city model through the cooperation with big corporations in the world, Dong Nai province has the fastest speed of urbanization.
Dong Nai province is not outside the trend of developing smart city that is pursued by the world.
Over the years, Dong Nai province has started using some intelligent traffic applications such as bus journey monitoring, traffic monitoring camera, traffic signal control system, centralized traffic control centre.
Especially, the province has succeeded in monitoring wastewater sources by automatic monitoring stations which are capable of reporting to the treatment centre if necessary and early warning of pollutants. Other areas like health and education have been making progress.
With a view to accelerating the building of smart cities from now until the third quarter of 2018, Dong Nai province's authorities will complete the provision of information to experts. The Planning and Investment Department will be in charge of making plan on developing smart cities and reporting to Dong Nai provincial People's Committee. Other issues such as education, health, transport, provincial operating systems, fire fighting and prevention,... should be prioritized to deploy smart city solutions as soon as possible.
