On October 4th, 2018, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a kickoff workshop on Vietnam Energy Outlook 2019 Report Development in collaboration with the Danish Energy Agency, the Embassy of Denmark. The workshop is part of the Danish Energy Partnership Program (DEPP).
Attending the workshop were Mr. Do Duc Quan, Deputy Director of the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority; representatives of the Danish Energy Agency, Embassy of Denmark; representatives of ministries, domestic consulting firms, international organizations, energy corporations; energy specialists from universities and research institutes and reporters from news agencies.

Within the framework of the DEPP program, the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority is currently working with the Danish Energy Agency to improve capacity of planning in the energy sector. The Vietnam Energy Outlook Report is intended to assess long-term energy development scenarios for Vietnam. Previously, the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2017 made an in-depth analysis and assessment of Vietnam's energy development scenarios. Subsequent to such success, the Vietnam Energy Outlook 2019 is developed.

Speaking at the opening of the ceremony, Mr. Do Duc Quan, Deputy Director of the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority said that recently, along with the economic development, the energy demand in Vietnam experienced a rapid increase and it was expected that this trend would continue in the future leading to not only an opportunity for the energy sector development but also a major challenge in ensuring the national energy security, protecting the environment and responding to climate change.
"The Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2019 aims to give an overview of Vietnam's energy sector in present and the future in accordance with current policies. The report will be a useful tool for policy makers and agencies responsible for energy planning, national power planning in Vietnam and related agencies", emphasized Mr. Do Duc Quan.

At the workshop, international experts presented the experience in developing and applying the Energy Outlook Report of Denmark and other countries in long-term energy planning and evaluated results of the first Vietnam Energy Outlook Report which was developed in 2017. In addition, domestic experts introduced the current state of the energy system, aspects of long-term energy planning in Vietnam, forecasting model, input data, outline of contents and preliminary results of the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2019.
Domestic and international consultants and participants of the workshop also discussed the Bamorel model in the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2017 and showed their suggestions for the proposed structures, contents and scenarios of the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2019.
