Kien Giang Province: 50% of industrial manufacturing establishments will apply clean technology by 2020
The Kien Giang provincial Green Growth Action Plan to 2020 with a vision to 2030 determines its general objective of ensuring the effective implementation of the National Green Growth Strategy, which aims at promoting rapid development of the economy and focuses on low carbon economy, reducing emissions and increasing the absorption of greenhouse gas emissions.
The plan also points out its specific objectives including establishing and developing a "green economy" structure on the basic of promoting the development of economic sectors using advanced technology and economic sectors using more efficiently energy and natural resources and being more resistant to the climate change and changing the provincial economic structure focusing more on the development of industry and services rather than agriculture.
According to the Kien Giang provincial Green Growth Action Plant, by 2020, 100% of industrial parks will have concentrated wastewater treatment systems meeting environmental standards; 80% of industrial parks, industrial clusters and 50% of trade villages will have solid waste collection and treatment systems.
60% of industrial production and business establishments will meet environmental standards and 50% of them will apply clean and environmentally-friendly technologies and the investment in the development of environmental protection supporting sectors will increase to 3-4% of GDP.
By 2030, 100% of the industrial parks will have concentrated wastewater treatment systems meeting environmental standards, 90% of industrial parks, industrial clusters and 70% of trade villages will have solid waste collection and treatment systems, 90% of industrial production and business establishments will meet environmental standards and 100% of new industrial production establishments will apply clean technology or use pollution control and energy-saving equipment.
In addition, the plan also sets targets related to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. By 2020, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions will be 3.3% lower than the standard level which will be equivalent to 730 thousand tons of CO2. By 2025, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions will be 21.2% lower than the standard level which will be equivalent to 5.5 million tons of CO2; the voluntary reduction of greenhouse gas emissions will make up for 9.1% and the remaining 12.1% will be completed in case of domestic or international support. On the basic of previous results of the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of Kien Giang province and the whole country, greenhouse gas emission reduction goal by 2030 will be determined.
The plan sets the goal of building an environmentally-friendly lifestyle, creating many job opportunities from industry, agriculture, and service sector; improving urban and rural infrastructure and improving living environment and lifestyle of residents.
