Hanoi builds a smart city associated with sustainable development

Hanoi aims at building a smart city associated with sustainable development. That's what Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People's Committee said at the ASOCIO Smart City Summit 2018, whose subject was "Building a smarter, safer city by digital solutions". The summit was jointly organized by Hanoi Municipal People's Committee, Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization and Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) on September 18, 2018. Approximately 600  senior officials from governments, ministries, cities and provinces as well as large domestic and international businesses participated in the summit.

At the summit, Nguyen Duc Chung said that Hanoi was one of the megacities in the world in terms of area and population; rapid urbanization and population growth led to many challenges in planning, traffic, security, health, education, energy, housing development. As a result, according to Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, Hanoi was aiming at developing a smart city which was convenient, safe and friendly for all people on the basis of application of Industry 4.0 key technologies. 
"The goal of building a smart city has been set in context of the fast-paced Industry 4.0 with cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printing, Virtual reality, Cloud computing, Robot, Big Data, Blockchain, Artificial intelligence requiring officials and technology experts to choose right methods to build a city providing an improved quality of living environment for people and stimulating socio-economic development", Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung said.

At the summit, many hot issues were discussed, many questions were raised for Hanoi in particular and cities in general, for example what method would be applied to develop a smart city, what sustainability of a smart city was in context of the Industry 4.0, what policies would be developed in order to facilitate the construction of a smart city, how the human resource training, digital conversion strategy development, digital infrastructure and network security development and startup ecosystem building would be carried out. 
According to Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, in 2018, Hanoi has coordinated with many organizations in organizing international workshops on smart city building. At such workshops, smart city experts, international and Vietnamese policy makers discussed and proposed solutions to assist Hanoi and other cities in Vietnam in building a smarter and safer city.
