Currently, waste is always a challenge of people as well as governments at all levels in the country. However, if waste can be well treated, it can completely become a good source of raw materials for producing fertilizer, brick and especially electricity for living and production needs.
Hanoi City Municipal Committee and Hitachi Zosen Company (Japan) have successfully implemented a project on burning waste for energy at Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex located in Soc Son district, Hanoi. This project aims at promoting the cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in the field of waste to energy and environmental problem handling.
It is known that the project on industrial waste power generation plant has a total investment of over VND645 billion. The plant which utilizes Japan's advanced waste to energy technologies has a capacity of 75 tons per day and generates 1.93MW of electricity. It is a pioneering project in terms of the modern industrial waste treatment process that Vietnam has never ever had. The industrial waste power generation plant pilots Japanese advanced technology in dealing with industrial waste, creating a new energy source, building a recycling society which contributes to helping Hanoi approach effective waste treatment technologies in order to reduce pollution, improve the environmental quality and ensure sustainable development in accordance with the municipal general plan on solid waste treatment by 2030 with a vision to 2050.

According to Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Hanoi is facing challenges which are economic development and environmental pollution and its biggest concerns are to treat of wastewater pollution in industrial parks and export processing zones; to deal with pollution in ponds, lakes and rivers in the city; to handle air pollution, solid waste, toxic waste,...
"Hanoi wishes to cooperate with Japan in dealing with the city's environmental pollution", Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People's Committee added.
