Green consumption is the purchase and use of products that are environmentally friendly and not harmful to human health and natural ecosystems.
Green consumption has been implemented by many countries and become an inevitable trend in the world with the aim of sustainable development. In Vietnam, switching to green and sustainable consumption model has been specified in lines, opinions and policies of the Party and the State and is a basic content of the current development objective.
Green consumption brings about a number of benefits including protecting the country's natural resources through the use of recycled products, for example, used paper used is sent to the recycling plant, then goes through many stages to go back to its original shape and is reused leading to reduction of the use of wood and forest protection.
Besides, recycling and reusing paper and bamboo bags instead of using single use plastics will minimize the production costs. Using electricity and water efficiently, green consumers can also contributes to protecting natural resources.
Green buyers play an important role in ensuring the environmentally-friendliness of green consumption as they purchase products which are friendly to the environment and nature and at the same time restrict the use of products whose packaging is much or whose production process cause environmental pollution.
The safety of green consumption is always guaranteed because products which are environmentally friendly are always safe for users. For example, the use of unleaded petrol, or E5 bio-fuel limits gas emissions which are harmful to the environment and health of users. Therefore, green consumption also makes customers' lives more comfortable and easier.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam is one of the countries having the highest rate of cancer. In addition, pollution of water, soil, air and food safety are the biggest concerns of people because of their long-term implications on people's health and environment. Therefore, Vietnam customers are more and more interested in and follow the green consumption trend with a view to protecting their health and the environment.
