Dak Lak promotes cleaner production in industry

28/11/2013

As an engineering enterprise, Daphovina Trading Production Service Company Limited (Daphovina) is one of the first companies in Dak Lak registering successful application of CP solutions to its manufacturing process. Specifically, the application of modern CP technologies in engineering helped reduce production costs while improving product quality and competitiveness. Daphovina was successful in the application of modern mechanical processing technology that would help reduce the amount of waste in the production process and costs, while increasing yields.

The Dakman Vietnam Company Limited (Dakman) has been involved in purchasing, processing and exporting coffee for years, encountered issues with waste water, dust, and noise generated during coffee processing. To mitigate these problems, Dakman actively invested in a VND600 million dusts handling system, and implemented the inspection and maintenance of devices such as air compressors and lifting racks. These solutions have helped the company gain significant economic and environmental benefits, i.e. minimizing the amount of dust flying into the environment while improving the quality of coffee products.

For the cassava starch processing industry, the biggest problem that all plants encountered was the smell arising from untreated solid waste and waste water. Cassava starch processing companies in many localities had to relocate due to severe environmental pollution generated from waste storage areas. Therefore, to minimize these environmental impacts, the Krong Bong Cassava Starch Processing Plant has invested in a biogas system to treat all of the waste while ensuring an adequate supply of gas for burning stoves and lighting purposes, saving tens of billions of dong per year, and successfully treating all waste generated during the production process and completely eliminating unpleasant odors generated from waste storage areas. In particular, due to being thoroughly treated, waste water from the plant is safe to use to irrigate crops and water fish ponds.

Recognizing its improved efficiency thanks to the application of CP measures, Dak Lak Province issued the 2011-2015 Cleaner Production Action in Industry, setting the goal that the province will have 100 percent of general management units aware of adopting cleaner production in industry, 50 percent of local companies have CP trained technicians, 25 percent of the manufacturing facilities in industrial parks and clusters, and 10 percent of manufacturing facilities outside parks and clusters applying CP solutions by 2015. In addition, the province will provide a grant to each industrial CP enterprise of up to VND50 million from the local industry promotion fund. This action plan is expected to help the province rapidly expand CP application in the near future./.
