Results of a survey conducted by MOIT's CPI component in Ca Mau show that 54 industrial production facilities which account for 21 percent of province's production facilities and 2.2 percent of national production facilities are aware of the benefits of cleaner production application in industry. Some 19 enterprises in different fields have applied cleaner production solutions into their activities including 11 seafood processors which have saved from 3-15 percent of electricity consumption, 3 percent of fuel oil, 3-4 percent of coal, 6-7 percent of gasoline, 3-10 percent of water, 3-15 percent of fuel; two metal producers, one electric and electronic producer.

Nguyen Van Thinh, the director of the Ca Mau Industrial Development Consultancy and Industry Promotion Center said, to ensure sustainable development, apart from strengthening the monitoring and assessment of environmental pollution level, Ca Mau authority has carried out solutions to accelerate the application of cleaner production measures in industrial production facilities at different scale and types. This is to increase the efficient use of natural resource, material, fuel; reduce green house gas emissions; limit the increase of environmental pollution; protect and improve environmental quality, human health; and ensure sustainable development.

In April, 2011, the Ca Mau People's Committee issued the decision No 714/QD-UBND on approving the province's Action Plan on Cleaner Production in Industry in the period of 2011-2020. Accordingly, about 90 percent of industrial production facilities will be aware of the benefits of cleaner production application in industry by 2020. About 50 percent of industrial production facilities will apply cleaner production solutions while 90 percent of facilities will have technical cum cleaner production officers. The budget for the action plan will be mobilized from the state budget, aid funds and the financial resource of production facilities.

In addition, the government's decision No 1419/QD-TTg on approving the Strategy for Cleaner Production in Industry of Vietnam to 2020 and five MOIT's projects of (1) raising awareness and build capacity on cleaner production application in industry; (2) developing data base and running a website on CPI; (3) giving technical assistance on cleaner production application in industrial production facilities; (4) organize training on CPI for the officers of departments and industry promotion center based on their need; (5) giving technical and financial assistance to develop an instruction manual on cleaner production application for industrial facilities and establish units providing cleaner production support will create favorable conditions for Ca Mau to implement its CPI plan./.
