Textile and garment businesses on the threshold of TPP: Accelerating technological innovation
In late 2015, Vinatex decided to invest nearly 1,000 billion VND for many factories in Ha Tinh with the expectation to expand the supply chain of textile – garment products. These facilities have already implemented modern technology with high level of automation and low energy consumption. The wastewater treatment center and feedwater pumping station which serve the entire facility with a capacity of 4,000m3 per day are also deployed.
According to Mr. Nguyen Sy Phuong - Chief of Engineering and Technology Board, Vinatex, the textile and garment industry in Vietnam has a weakness which hasn’t been solved is that most of input material (cloth) has to be imported. "Therefore, Vinatex decided to manufacture cloth that is good enough to be provided for the textile and garment industry. The Group has invested a lot in its factories, technologies and equipment to be able to produce high-quality cloth, meeting the demand of the industry. The Group has also purchased modern fiber machines to manufacture high-quality fabric with special properties", Mr. Phuong said.
Mr. Than Duc Viet - Deputy General Director of Garment 10 Company - said, the company highly focused on applying appropriate technologies to ensure quality for their products and maintain prestige for their brands.
Not only that, Garment 10 Company has also invested in the high technology that is used for preventing counterfeit products. "This is the way to protect the company’s brand and the costumers’ interests. Controlling processes tightly will help to avoid unwanted incidents and problems", Mr. Than Duc Viet insisted.
Mr. Nguyen Sy Phuong said, in order to be capable of competing in the context of international integration, textile and garment businesses also pay attention to the technological innovation in quality control processes.
"Previously, textile and garment businesses could only interest in durability and physical properties of the products, now they have to create products that are not harmful to customers and control the residual chemicals in cloth that can negatively affect the human skin or potentially cause cancer", said Mr. Phuong.
Mr. Nguyen Si Phuong said that, besides inputs materials, the standards of quality control as well as equipment, human resources and technology are very important. Members of the Vinatex Group always actively invest in technologies that are environmentally friendly, consume less fuel and discharge less wastes. In order to maintain the competitiveness, Vinatex has to use production lines with high level of automation.
According to Mr. Le Ngoc Lam - Deputy Director of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, Ministry of Science and Technology, currently, textile and garment businesses are mainly importing raw materials, equipment and production lines (including designs) ... In the context of integration, if businesses do not create new solutions for renewing technologies and industrial designs, their competitive value and capacity will be limited.
