Cooperation of Vietnam and Denmark in Low Carbon Development in the energy sector
The Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who was accompanied by Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, arrived in Denmark on October 19, 2018 to start an official two-day visit to the country at the invitation of Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and attend the Partnership Summit on Green Growth and Global Targets until 2030 (P4G) in Copenhagen.
Welcoming the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement between Denmark and Vietnam, the two prime minister highly appreciated the bilateral relationship in the past five years as there was a shift from a traditional relationship between development aid and a comprehensive partnership focused on trade and investment, stronger political dialogue and cooperation in key areas such as green growth, energy. Namely, the trade turnover experienced continuous increase and reached over USD 664 million and 130 Danish companies were operating in Vietnam.
After the official welcoming ceremony on the afternoon on October 20, 2018, the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and delegations of the two countries discussed issues in which Vietnam and Denmark were interested such as environment, green growth, energy ... as well as the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
After that, the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen witnessed the signing of an Memorandum of Understanding between Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Danish Minister of Energy, Infrastructure and Climate Lars Christian Lileholt on Cooperation within the area of Low Carbon Development in the Energy Sector.
The MoU will promote long-term cooperation in the field of low carbon development in the energy sector, develop policies supporting the transition to a cost-effective and sustainable energy system, develop the legal framework supporting energy efficiency activities and renewable energy development such as the bidding mechanism for the development of renewable energy projects and the system of technical standards in power source and energy efficiency.
Forms of cooperation include sharing knowledge and lessons learned in the four- decade low carbon transition in Denmark, sharing experiences in developing policies on the plan, deployment and transfer of technology in the energy sector. In addition, the Kingdom of Denmark will also support projects on renewable energy, energy efficiency, grid development and other projects related to the energy sector through the Danida Business Finance, Danish Investment Funds for Developing Countries and/or Danish Export Credit Fund.
On the same day, the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc was accompanied by Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh to attend the Vietnam-Denmark Business Forum with the participation of leading Danish companies. At the forum, the Minister answered many questions, especially in the field of energy including the policy of clean energy development and green development guarantee of Vietnam, the national wind power plan and incentives for investors in this area.
