Make use of coal-fired power plants' slag and ash to produce unbaked bricks

25/10/2018

Unbaked bricks are environmentally-friendly materials and are increasingly used in construction works. In our country, promoting the development of unbaked building materials to gradually replace clay brick is specified in the Government's policy contributing to pollution reduction and environmental protection.
According to the Ministry of Construction's statistics, there are 30 unbaked brick  manufacturing factories in the country including 13 autoclaved aerated concrete manufacturing plants and 17 foam concrete manufacturing plants with more than 1,000 aggregate cement brick production lines whose capacity is over 10 million bricks and some other types of non-baked materials per year.

Thanh Tuyen unbaked brick and colored tile manufacturing factory Thanh Tuyen Group JSC (Dong Trieu district-level town, Binh Khe township, Quang Ninh province) is one of factories aiming at green production goals. The factory's unbaked bricks are mainly made of coal-fired power plants' slag and ash and a very small proportion of cement and sand to ensure their solidity... Its production line is imported from Japan, most of production stages are mechanized and automated including the process of transporting raw materials into the mixing stations. In addition, raw materials are placed in the store buildings whose roof are battened down, the aggregate treatment process is mechanized to avoid dust emissions.
The factory always pays attention to technology innovation, production quality improvement and waste limitation. Specifically, the factory has invested in a steam kiln where its products are kept in order to improve their quality. This distinguishes the factory's production line from ones of other plants. The working environment is always clean. The factory has sufficiently labor protection appliances, food canteens and water filters for workers,...
In addition to bricks, the factory also invests in modern production lines imported from Japan and Italy making use of slag to produce 10 kinds of non-baked products such as colored tiles, so-called terrazzo bricks, high-grade interior and exterior bricks,... The output of the factory is over 200 million products of different types including 120,000 unbaked bricks per year. The factory creates job opportunities for about 250 local laborers whose average salary is VND6.5-7 million.
According to experts, the treatment of coal-fired power plants' slag and ask is costly and requires a land whose area is hundreds of hectares for storage. It cost about VND1 million for a unit of land (square meter) and VND120,000 to  bury a ton of slag and ash. Therefore, it is clear that the unbaked bricks and other environmentally friendly products of the factory are contributing to reduce environmental pollution, helping industrial production establishments reduce the cost of treatment of industrial waste, save resources and money to create new products.
