Over the past years, industrial production in Quang Tri province has grown quite well, made up for a large proportion of the provincial GDP and made contribution to the industrialization and modernization process. With the aim of sustainable industry development, cleaner production is a necessary solution to helping industrial manufacturing establishments step by step innovate equipment, streamline the production process, improve efficiency of the use of materials and energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
With a view to effectively implementing the Cleaner Production Strategy in industry up to 2020, Quang Tri provincial People's Committee issued the Action Plan on the implementation of the Cleaner Production Strategy in industry up to 2020 in Quang Tri province.
In the period of 2009-2018, thanks to the industrial promotion budget, the provincial People's Committee supported manufacturing establishments to streamline their production processes, conduct rapid assessments on cleaner production, innovate technologies and equipment in order to reduce costs, save energy, improve product quality and especially contribute to ensuring the food safety and hygiene in food processing establishments.
Mr. Le Tien Dung, Deputy Director of Quang Tri provincial Department of Industry and Trade said that: "Not only does cleaner production application solve the environmental pollution but it also brings many benefits to industrial production facilities".

Quang Tri provincial Department of Industry and Trade cooperated with Department of Science and Technology, Management board of provincial economic zones in deploying many cleaner production promotion activities, such as training enterprises on cleaner production knowledge, assisting businesses in conducting rapid assessments on cleaner production which is a basis for their investment in equipment and streamlining of production process; supporting enterprises to conduct energy audits leading to efficient use of energy; launching initiatives, technical solutions to improving equipment, productivity, product quality and protecting the environment.
Cleaner production information which was disseminated on provincial mass helped improving awareness of industrial facilities. In addition, the province established and effectively run the Environmental Protection Fund to support enterprises to invest in environmental protection projects and to promote the application of cleaner production.
Binh Dien-Quang Tri Stock Company is one of the enterprises that were entitled to develop a cleaner production application demonstration model. Before carrying out cleaner production solutions, the company had used semi automatic packaging machine which had caused much dust and not worked effectively. The company had employed 8 workers for product packaging stage whose capacity had been 200 product per hour. After switching to an automatic packaging machine, product packaging stage only required 6 employees, reduced the amount of dust, operated effectively as its capacity increased to 300 product per hour.
Beside initial achievements, Quang Tri provincial Department of Industry and Trade told that only 15-20% of industrial establishments in the province were aware of importance and benefits of the cleaner production application. The benefits of applying CP. Benefits of the cleaner production application have not been fully recognized by the business community to become their urgent demand.
With a view to achieving objectives of the Cleaner Production Strategy in industry until 2020, Quang Tri provincial People's Committee should further support enterprises to approach cleaner production and deploy synchronous solutions.
