Harmonize economic and environmental interests

24/08/2018

With a view to helping businesses approach and realize economic and environmental interests of the implementation of cleaner production in industry, Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade cooperated with other agencies in raising step by step the efficiency of state management, helping enterprises improve their equipment, machines and technology, increase manufacturing efficiency, make contribution to reducing environmental pollution and meet industrial sustainable development requirements of the city.
Companies learned about solutions to the application of new manufacturing technologies in the workshop on “Implementation of cleaner production in industrial manufacturing” organized by Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade in 2018
Aim at cleaner production
According to Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade, there are 6 industrial parks and 210 projects which are being carried out in the city. Among such industrial parks, 2 large ones where businesses specialize in seafood processing, cattle feed processing, beer and soft drinks are located are Tra Noc 1 and Tra Noc 2. Most of industrial parks has their own centralized wastewater treatment plant, however, waste treatment of many businesses still does not meet environmental standards. In addition, many seafood processing factories consume a large amount of heat, use waste as their materials and fail to treat waste gas effectively causing increasingly alarming air pollution. Besides, many manufacturing establishments and enterprises outside the industrial parks use outdated technologies and old equipment in the manufacturing process leading to increasing production cost and carbon dioxide emissions and having considerable impact on the environment. As a result, with a view to harmonizing economic and environmental interests, it is important to strengthen the state management and raise awareness of application of cleaner production techniques for businesses in the city.
Mr. Huynh Trung Tru, Deputy Director of Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade said that pursuant to the Decision No. 1419/QD-TTg dated September 7th 2009 of the Prime Minister on the approval of “Cleaner Production Strategy in Industry until 2020”, Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade implemented many actions programs, for example, it cooperated with other agencies in carrying out propaganda campaigns on cleaner production for industrial manufacturing establishments, giving technical support to 3 businesses and organizing 12 training courses together with fields trips on cleaner production application demonstration model for enterprises. Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade also opened intensive training courses on skills of application of solutions to cleaner production implementation in industry; intensive training courses on equipment maintenance, application of energy efficiency solutions to boilers for technical managers of businesses. At the same time, Industry and Trade Department implemented rapid assessment on cleaner production application potential for 15 enterprises and organized the workshop on "Application of cleaner production in industrial manufacturing" in 2018 for state management agencies and businesses inside and outside the city. Not only did the workshop provide information on the cleaner production strategy but it introduced ionization and electrolytic technologies for treatment of deposits of boilers and cooling towers in food processing industry and solar power systems to industrial manufacturing establishments and businesses as well. Thanks to these cleaner production action programs, industrial manufacturing establishments and enterprises were aware of the importance of cleaner production and as a result, many businesses improved their equipment and technologies in every manufacturing process in order to increase the quality, value and competitiveness of products and make contributions to environmental protection.
Strengthen management
Mr. Nguyen Huu Huy, owner of Ba Hoang private business located in Thot Not district, Can Tho city said that thanks to training courses and workshops of the Department of Industry and Trade, businesses did not only approach new techniques and methods of wastewater treatment but they also found out solutions to ice making process. Especially, the installation of deposit treatment equipment called Ewater to purify inputting water and treat outputting water in ice making process really stood out because it helped businesses save time and reduce production costs as well. According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Huy, in the future, his company would improve equipment and machines in accordance with the current state of the ice making factory and at the same time use solar energy in manufacturing activities in order to reduce energy consumption, increase manufacturing efficiency and product quality and meet environmental requirements. Using new technologies, inverters on automatic production line in order to increase the quality of products, reduce the number of laborers and energy consumption and make contributions to environmental protection is a popular solution to grilled chopped meat and noodle manufacturing establishments.
Managing each production line in order to avoid loss and waste of materials and fuel, save production costs and protect environment is preferred by seafood processing enterprises. Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy director of Southern Fishery Industries Co.,Ltd told that his company step by step used LEDs for the entire lighting system, installed inverters for the compressor system, checked periodically machines and equipment in production line in order to reduce loss and avoid waste of electricity. At the same time, Southern Fishery Industries Co.,Ltd also used solar water heater system to clean shark catfish processing tools and containers leading to energy consumption saving in manufacturing process, environmental protection towards cleaner production.
Cleaner production has been applied widely by manufacturing establishments and enterprises making contributions to increasing efficiency of energy use, carbon dioxide emission reduction and environmental quality improvement. However, with a view to harmonizing economic and environmental interests, it is essential to raise capacity of state management agencies regarding cleaner production application as well as stimulate enterprises to apply cleaner production in industry to reduce the amount of waste causing environmental pollution and contribute to make development of the city's industry more and more sustainable.
