In the context of the increasingly demanding shrimp high export of quality in market, Kien Giang province has launched a series of clean shrimp exports to the EU for the first time.
The production chain applies a closed production line from the stage of raising shrimp in the pond, supplying materials to the stage of harvesting and processing finished products. Shrimp ponds are located right next to the processing plant so they have solved many constraints such as unknown raw materials, poor quality of input shrimp to the factory, reducing shrimp quality during transportation ... In the other hand, time and cost of transporting raw materials are also saved.
Based on advantage of the natural conditions, Kien Giang province has expanded the model of industrial shrimp farming in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle and U Minh Thuong with an area of 5,000 ha. Of which, the Long Xuyen Quadrangle 4,700 ha; total output is about 43,650 tons.
The industrial shrimp farming area of Kien Giang province is oriented towards modern, sustainable and food safety.
Dr. Do Minh Nhut said that the province has mobilized many resources to focus on developing industrial shrimp farming. Applying advanced technological processes to production to increase productivity and output of shrimp; to attach importance to the model of high-tech application, producing large volumes of foodstuffs ensuring quality, food safety and hygiene.
The investment of capital for shrimp farmers and research and application of technology transfer in shrimp farming is focused. The province has applied good production practices in accordance with international and national standards in shrimp culture such as GAP, GlobalGAP, ASC, MSC, etc.
In addition, local investment in high quality seed production, meeting 45% of the demand for industrial shrimp; to build two quarantine stations, monitor and alert the environment on shrimp farming in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle and U Minh Thuong.
In addition, local development of extensive shrimp farming improved 19,325 hectares, yield of about 5,800 tons, distributed in Ha Tien town and the districts of Kien Luong, Giang Thanh, Hon Dat, An Bien, An Minh, Vinh Thuan, U Minh Thuong; to develop the farming of freshwater prawn in 5,000ha in two districts of Vinh Thuan and U Minh Thuong.
In the immediate future, Kien Giang province will use its resources to build and upgrade the An Bien - An Minh sea dyke system with a system of 30 irrigation and drainage systems. This project can help Kien Giang Province response to climate change and also filled the production area of U Minh Thuong, regulating water used for agricultural production and used for aquaculture.
This is a "smart production model" that is both adaptable to climate change and brings two economic benefits to farmers: shrimp and rice, friendly to the environment. Kien Giang is investing in improving the production of two models of "shrimp - rice management community" and "rice shrimp - extensive improvement" to replicate the traditional shrimp - rice production.
The factor that makes the brand name is the shrimp farming business in Kien Giang is the activation of using clean processing material sources; the products of the province are refined items, quickly applying modern technical advances and technologies to help businesses conquer difficult markets. Besides the EU, the company now exports shrimp directly to the US, Japan with total export value of more than 20 million USD.
