Trung Hau JSC: Recycling coal ash to produce durable construction materials

Trung Hau Machinery and New Material Production Joint Stock Company has had 20 year experiment on technology research and manufacturing light brick, cement brick, aggregate. This year, they had just successfully tested a method of recycling coal ash to produce adobe bricks, pressed concrete and find the best ways to treat the thermal power sector waste.

This year, they had just successfully tested a method of recycling coal ash to produce adobe bricks, pressed concrete and find the best ways to treat the thermal power sector waste.
Coal ash is the main waste of thermal power sector. It can be utilized as raw materials for production of concrete admixtures, cement additives. Otherwise, It is not many people know that coal ash have a very high natural sulfate durability. It has less influenced by salt water enviroment so we can be used coal ash as the raw material for production process of adobe bricks, concrete blocks that using as breakwater wall or embankment on river bank and beach.
Trung Hau Joint Stock Company has considered the issue of supply of raw materials as coal ash to produce concrete and adobe bricks and they found coal ash is a huge source to produce electric power. Their calculator shows that every coal power plant with capacity 600 MW, using coal to burn can discharge the amount of ash that can produce about 1 billion adobe bricks each year. Therefore, we can see the potential of recycling and using coal ash as raw materials to produce pressed adobe bricks or high strength concrete.
On the other hand, Trung Hau Joint Stock Company also has made a question: What if the amount of coal ash from thermal power plants is not going to use reasonably or use for recycling into some kind of new productions. The answer is the power plant will have to pay an extra cost for treating coal ash and millions tons of coal ash must be bury each year could make a huge waste of land and landfills. Easy to see, recycling coal ash to produce adobe bricks and pressed concrete is a workable solution. It can reduce the acreage of land for landfills, resource utilization, create sources of cheap and durable construction materials. Thereby, Recycling coal ash to produce durable construction materials is a good solution to contribute in the sustainable development objectives and built the accordance with the policy of the government.
Currently, the adobe bricks and molding concrete, which are used coal ash as raw materials, passed the physical and chemical indicators tested and totally safe for the environment and in accordance with Vietnam quality standards. Tran Trung Nghia, Director General of JSC Trung Hau said that the research of produce adobe bricks and pressed concrete from coal ash have been registered patent protection in both Vietnam and the United States.

In 2012, the Ministry of Construction issued Circular 09/2012/TT-BXD prescribed burning material used for the construction, which has further contributed to the company on the increse of durable construction materials produce.
At the present, in our country, we have 25 adobe brick plants, which are supplying machineries and equipments by Trung Hau Joint Stock Company. In 2016, Trung Hau Joint Stock Company has been awarded a patent is valid until 20 years for cement tile products, environmentally friendly aggregate by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
