Hai Phong: Turning waste into resource
Thứ năm, 01/12/2016
Hai Phong city with a population of around 2.1 million people and key industries (cement, steel, textiles, footwear) processing are defecating about 1,600 tonnes of solid waste per day, including domestic waste and industrial waste. This solid waste hardly be classified that are very difficult to recycle. Most of solid wastes are treated by landfilling and one fraction was burned. The solid waste landfills have become overloaded and the solid wastes that are burned too small to compare with the amount the discharged wastes per day. Currently, the huge amount of waste that isn't under control of the authorities becoming a strong motivation to Hai Phong to find the new solutions: Turning waste into resource.

Currently, the huge amount of waste that isn't under control of the authorities becoming a strong motivation to Hai Phong to find the new solutions: Turning waste into resource.

Turning solid waste into compost

Approximately 900 tons of solid wastes are buried at small and unhygienic landfills; the rest is taken to the 2 solid waste treatment plants: Dinh Vu and Trang Cat.

In 2014, the People's commitee of Hai Phong, the Asian Carbon gas emissions reductions center and   Natural Resources and Environment Department of Kitakyushu, Japanese held the seminar of Earth environmental strategy workshop called "Research on urban construction planning CO2 reduction". After the seminar, trading company Nishihara and Thanh Vinh Company organized a project to find out how to make compost from domestic solid waste in Hai Phong condition. Accordingly, domestic solid waste will be sorted, domestic solid waste can be recycled at 70% of the total garbages. The project is expected to reduce 2,000 tons of CO2 per year. Funding for construction of the plant reuse solid waste composting activities estimated 70 - 80 million JPY.
Currently, because of lacking funding and raw materials, the waste treatment plant of recycling solid waste Trang Cat can not produce organic fertilizers there is no guarantee of quality and the products can not be use by farmers widely. However, Hai Phong is trying to invite and attract investors such as Japan, to support.

Hai Phong city leaders have also collaborated with the Japanese experts project of solid waste recycled into raw materials for cement production (mainly from industrial solid waste). Although the recycling and recovery of solid waste as a source of raw materials for cement production in Vietnam is still limited, but also began to be interested in developing in one of the provinces in the country, typically as Ninh Binh.

Using industrial solid waste for cement manufacturing process

In Hai Phong, ashes of Hai Phong Thermal Power Plant and DAP JSC or the nix of Pha Rung Shipyard can make use as an additive to cement. While companies must Chinfon cement imports from Japan ash as an additive to cement mangdoanh waste generation is now to find ways to dispose of. Despite overlooking the economic benefits from the recycling of industrial waste, such as dust, fly ash, nix grain as raw material for cement production but no guide and direct appropriate treatment technology management, classification of types of industrial solid waste.

In this context, DAP JSC campaign pioneered artisanal industrial solid wastes as byproducts for producing cement. In recent years, the company has accumulated about 2 million tons of gypsum residues (industrial waste) and research solutions to turn the industrial solid waste into synthetic gypsum as cement additives. In 2010, JSC plaster Dinh Vu was born. 2014, Dinh Vu gypsum company has produced about one thousand tons of synthetic gypsum provides market cement production in the country.

Solid waste recycling activities and industrial solid waste is a promising field, but not the best conditions for development. Hai Phong city has and is continuing efforts to research the solution, calling for support and investment links with international environmental organizations, foreign investors are interested in the industrial market Hai Phong such as Japan, South Korea; issued and mechanisms and policies to encourage and support enterprises to implement collection and recycling of solid waste with the aim of turning waste into a resource, economic benefit, environmental protection bare.
