On November 18, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Sustainable Energy Coalition in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade has organized Renewable Energy Week 2016. This is an opportunity for water experts and authorities reassess energy usage to minimize harm to the environment.

Economy grows, the higher energy demand. For the Mekong Delta (MD), development goals till 2030 and vision to 2050 is to build the Mekong Delta to become "centers of agricultural processing industry, fisheries, energy industry, public agricultural support industries "and the" business center, ecotourism characteristic landscape Mekong river Basin. To accomplish this goal, a series of power plant coal was being used to try and be constructive. However, according to the experts, the Mekong Delta has the largest potential for solar, wind, etc. especially the potential of biomass electricity.

Steven VonEife, management of renewable energy programs in Vietnam said that Vietnam has great potential for renewable energy, etc. but not a strong development of renewable energy prices are still low while costs investment in renewable energy is higher than the current price of energy. Currently the Ministry of Industry and Trade has submitted to the Government strategy of renewable energy development of Vietnam; which, with the objectives set out in particular in electricity planning VII adjustments also increased the proportion of power from renewable energy.

Representing the General Department of Energy (Ministry of Trade) said, the Ministry has set up a mechanism for creating price signals to encourage enterprises to participate in this field. Currently, the Ministry is finalizing the report. Last time, there are many documents focused on developing renewable energy as strategic national energy development. The Ministry will have to develop a roadmap and mechanism to promote this program. Hopefully next time, the price mechanism of solar energy is passed, it will contribute to ensuring energy security, reduce fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Pham Trong Thuc, Director of the Department of Renewable Energy (MOIT), the participation of renewable energy to meet the demand in addition to energy security, while helping to exploit natural resources are abundant renewable energy dào in Vietnam. Vietnam may establish a development fund for sustainable energy use budget resources, environmental cost of fossil fuels. Secondly there is good power price policy and ensure attractive to investors, or to focus on developing the small and medium-sized enterprises, issuing power purchase contracts with terms and Vietnam Electricity ( EVN) to purchase all products from the renewable energy, etc.

Mechanism electricity price policy and ensuring investment, bottlenecks are developing renewable energy today. Many investors still feel high risk financial investment or capacity constraints on fabrication, installation and commissioning up investment costs of solar power is higher than investment in gas power coal and gas.

Thus, experts say, should be prioritized in the formation, market development, planning and preferential policies and financial support for renewable energy development. Thereby, contribute to energy conservation and pollution reduction, climate change mitigation, to better meet the requirements of sustainable economic development./.
