Energy audit result of Pha Lai Thermal Power JSC

Pha Lai Thermal Power JSC is one of the largest coal-fired thermal power plants in the country. It has 02 electric production lines, including 6 units with a total capacity of 1,040 MW. Main product of the company is electricity.
Pha Lai Thermal Power JSC is one of the largest coal-fired thermal power plants in the country. It has 02 electric production lines, including 6 units with a total capacity of 1,040 MW. Main product of the company is electricity. 
Pha Lai Thermal Power JSC has regularly invested in repairing, renovating and upgrading equipment so that its units still generate electricity stably and economically at 90-95% of their designed capacity. 
Energy use situation 
Pha Lai Thermal Power JSCuses several types of energy such as electricity and fossil fuels (coal, FO, DO) for power generation. However, coal is the main energy and has the highest rate of consumption. 
The company's energy cost (VND) in 2017 is as follows: 
Particular energy efficiency solutions 
5 energy solutions are found during energy audit period including installation of new air heater in boiler system, VSD application, heat pump system application.
Solution No. 1: Replacing the air heater for Boiler 1A
Real situation 
Tubes of air heater are old, punctured, broken and dusty: 
-Boiler exit flue gas temperatureis is high (1650C);
-The coefficient of excess air after the air preheater is high;
-The degree of opening the damper of the air fan and induced draft fan is large.
The above situations cause heat loss according to large exhaust gas, reducing boiler efficiency, increasing power consumption for air fans and draft fans.
Expected output 
Using a new air heater and adjusting the excess air coefficient appropriately will reduce the exhaust flue gas temperature(to 1330C) and the excess air coefficient, leading to heat loss reduction and increasing boiler efficiency to 85,38% and decreasing power consumption of the air fan and draft fan.

Solution No. 2: Installing inverter for circulating pump motor of the line 1
Real situation 
- Low water flow through circulation pump 
- High power capacity
Expected output 
After the installation of the inverter for the circulating water pump motor to adjust pump speed according to the total pump head pressure, the pump's power consumption will reduce from 1,839kW to 1,421kW resulting to decreasing energy cost.

Cost savings: VND 3.334 billion Payback period: 2.81 years
Solution No. 3: Installing heat pump for unit 5 of the line 2
Real situation 
- High temperature of water into the condenser reduces the cooling efficiency of condenser;
- The water temperature on the condenser water system is low.

Expected output 
After the installation of the heat pump, the temperature of the circulating water to the condenser will decrease and at the same time, the heat will be transferred to the condensate water resulting to steam and electric power savings.

Northern Electrical Testing One Member Company Limited cooperated with Korean energy experts in conducing detailed energy audit at the unit 1 of line 1 and unit 5 of line 2from October 29, 2018 to November 16, 2018.
