Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh thought that with a view to maintaining the growth rate of the manufacturing industry, it is important to continue to focus on building and perfecting institutions, improving investment environment, mobilizing resources for the development of industrial sectors promoting rapid and sustainable economic growth.
According to the General Statistics Office’s report on the socio-economic situation in the first 6 months in 2018, the manufacturing index of the whole industry in the first 6 months registered an increase of 10.5% compared to the same period last year. And the strong growth of the manufacturing and processing industry with an increase of 13.02% was the most remarkable thing. It was the highest growth rate of this industry in the past 7 years.
Despite the strong growth of the manufacturing industry, according to the General Statistics Office’s forecast, the whole industry may experience a slower growth rate in the last 6 months showing the importance of the sustainable development of the industry in particular and economic sectors in general.
The manufacturing and processing industry had an impressive increase of 13.02% in the first 6 months in 2018
Associate Professor Dr. Pham Tat Thang, Senior Researcher of the Trade Research Institute said that unless Vietnam changed its strategies, its industrial and export value would be hard to change.
“Samsung’s export turnover is very impressive, however, Vietnam businesses have not made much contributions to the manufacturing of Samsung’s products. It shows that FDI enterprises have not had much influence on the manufacturing industry yet. Only when the supporting industry improves will domestic businesses join the manufacturing and value chains of FDI enterprises”, said Dr. Pham Tat Thang.
Vietnam needs to change its strategies in order to promote sustainable development of the industry
In spite of big contributions of the industry to the economy, there are not many large industrial projects. Therefore, it is necessary to associate industrial businesses as well as improve their capacities in order to help them join actively the supply chain leading to sustainable development of the whole industry.
“Besides, continuing to reduce investment conditions, simplifying administrative procedures and improving the quality of online public services, speeding up the building and perfection of institutions so as to stimulate the development and application of technologies and innovations in industrial businesses are essential”, said Minister Tran Tuan Anh.
