The Ministry of Industry and Trade on November 27 launched the three-year energy efficiency campaign.
The campaign receives technical support from the Danish Embassy and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), targeting to raise enterprises’ awareness of energy efficiency and assist them in achieving the goal.
The campaign is one of the key focuses in the National Target Program on energy efficiency and conservation and creates a precondition for the building of a green economy in Viet Nam, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh.
Within the campaign, a hot line and websites on energy efficiency and saving and financial support will be established.
More and more enterprises have realized economic and environmental benefits from practicing energy efficiency and cleaner production technologies, said Mr. Simon Andrews, IFC Regional Manager for Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.
In the first phase from 2012 to 2013, the campaign will focus on four industrial sectors including cement, iron, paper and chemicals.
According to the latest statistics published by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Viet Nam is home to around 1,200 facilities that consume over 1,000 tons of oil equivalent (TOE) per year each, or together account for around 70-80% of national energy consumption.
A large number of industrial businesses have their energy consumption per a product higher than that in regional countries./.
