In order to develop strongly traditional craft villages, one of the most effective solutions that brings high efficiency in production and reduce significantly environmental pollution in rural areas is to apply cleaner production program in production process the craft villages.

Phu Tho province currently has 29 craft villages in 11 districts, cities, towns that were recognized by Phu Tho People's Committee with industry groups such as: processing of tea, bamboo and rattan weaving, processing of agricultural products, food, wood, hat making,...These villages have more than 80 percent of people take advantage of housing area for producing, as a result, most wastewater treatment systems have not constructed yet, 70 percent of the equipment used is rudimentary and simple machinery,…

Thus, environmental pollution in craft villages is inevitable and increasingly seriously threatening to environment as well as production development. In bamboo weaving, hat making craft villages,...Not only air pollution from burning fuels, the anaerobic decomposition of organic matter in wastewater, solid waste but pollution is also originated by anti-mold drying created large amounts of SO2, CO2.

Environmental pollution in craft villages can partly solved if they apply cleaner production. In fact, Phu Tho has deployed more than 30 clearner production demonstration models. However, cleaner production programs still lack the participation of economic components as the handicraft co-operative and craft villages. Meanwhile, this component is contributing a very important part in the development of local industry, providing jobs and income for workers. Also due to lack direction on the application of cleaner production for components of this economy, so the information and data are lacking and not to gather in specific subjects for professional work.

Currently, most people in craft villages in Phu Tho all want to access to cleaner production. However, the problem is how to access and how to work. Cleaner production in craft villages needs a specific review and close attention of the authorities expressed through the establishment of framework of policy, legal documents and financial support.
