Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in many provinces and cities will receive training in cleaner production and waste management under a memorandum of understanding signed on Wednesday in Hanoi.
The agreement, aimed to provide a cleaner production and waste management training program for SMEs, was signed between Dow Chemical International Limited (DCIL), the Office for Business Sustainable Development of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the Center for Environment and Cleaner Production (CECP) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Previous programs and projects relating to cleaner production and waste management in Vietnam have contributed to an enhanced awareness within the business community, but mainly among large enterprises and state-owned companies. This training program this time, however, will shift its focus to raising the awareness and knowledge of best practices among small and medium sized businesses, where awareness has remained limited.
The training program will take place in 25 cities and provinces. It will be coordinated by the VCCI offshoot, while CECP will be the key program partner and will be in charge of training materials and workshops including specialists.
Tran Anh Tan, director of CECP, said in a statement that with limited resources, SMEs usually don’t have access to this type of training. The provision of this training program aimed at small and medium businesses is a step in the right direction, he said.
This collaboration will initially be for up to two years although Dow is committed to a long-term future relationship to raise the awareness of cleaner production and waste management.
