Workshop "Resource Efficiency & Cleaner Production"

In continuation of AITVN professional workshop series on “Green Manufacturing and Management”, the workshop number 4 on “Resource Efficiency & Cleaner Production” (RECP) was held in HoChiMinh city and Hanoi on 7 and 8 August 2014 respectively. The event attracted over 100 representatives of enterprises and organizations.

The event attracted over 100 representatives of enterprises and organizations.

Enterprises have no better choice than developing strategies toward sustainable development when facing globally urgent threats: therapid world population growth, the depletionofnaturalresources, degradation ofecosystems, biodiversity loss, pollution, and climate change. One of the best sustainable development strategies for enterprises is resource efficiency & cleaner production.

Dr. Tran Van Nhan, VNCPC Director, a Vietnam leading expert in RECP quoted Prof. MichaelPorter, author of"Competitive Advantage of Nations" asaconclusion: "Leaders needto be aware oftheenvironmental improvementasaneconomic opportunityand competition...It’s time tobuild aneconomytied tothe environment, resourceproductivity, innovationand competitiveness. "

Resource efficiency and cleaner production (RECP) is the continuous application of an integrated preventive strategy for overall environment protection in the production process, products and services to increase efficiency and reduce risks for human sand the environment. RECP is to raise:

Production efficiency through the efficient use of natural resources in the enterprise;

Environmental conservation through reducing the impact of production on nature;

Human development through the reduction of hazards to people and communities; support human development

Dr. Nhan also mentioned specific areas that enterprises can apply RECP and the benefits that bring to the development of the enterprise. Many success stories of RECP in the world and Vietnam were shared and received enthusiastic discussion of the audience.

Co-organizer with AITVN in this workshop was The Business Council for Sustainable Development in Vietnam "VBCSD", represented by Mr.Nguyen Quang Vinh - VBCSD Secretary General. Mr. Vinh also highlighted the role of businesses in the sustainable development roadmap of Vietnam. Accordingly, the enterprise played avery important role in sustainable development, such as reducing emissions and protecting the ecological environment, and social justice, etc. Any sustainable enterprise would contribute to economic value, healthy ecosystems and strong communities. /.
