On November 2, 2018, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) organized a workshop on " Sustainable energy solutions in seafood and wood processing sector in Vietnam" in cooperation with the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development.
On November 2, 2018, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) organized a workshop on " Sustainable energy solutions in seafood and wood processing sector in Vietnam" in cooperation with the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director general of the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade) made a presentation at the workshop
"Industry is the most energy-intensive n Vietnam. According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the sectoral energy consumption in Vietnam is as follows: industrial sector consumes 47.3%, transportation uses 29.6%, civil sector  consumes 15.1%, the figures in non-energy sector, commercial sector and agricultural sector are 3.4%, 3.1% and 1.6% respectively", Mr. Vu said.
With a view to enforcing legal provisions on the economical and efficient use of energy, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has promulgated five circulars regulating energy consumption norms in the fields of chemicals, beverage, steel, paper, plastic.
Regarding seafood processing sector, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is currently developing a circular on energy consumption norm in the seafood processing industry focusing on two main products namely frozen shrimp and frozen catfish. It is expected to be submitted to the Minister of Industry and Trade for approval in 2018.
Accordingly, energy consumption norms in the seafood processing sector in 2019-2025 is about 1,050 kWh per ton and 2,050k Wh per ton for catfish and shrimp processing respectively. In the period of 2026-2030, the figures reduce to 900 kWh per ton and 1.625 kWh per ton.
"Enterprises will gradually apply solutions without initial investment costs, low-cost and medium cost solutions. Then higher cost solutions are taken into consideration in order to achieve this norm", said Mr. Vu.
With regard to the wood processing sector, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, energy consultant said that the consumption of energy in the wood processing sector in 2015 accounted for 2.32% in the industrial sector and 1% in the whole country. The wood processing's energy demand is forecasted to grow at an average annual rate of 8% for the period of 2015-2030.
According to Mr. Khanh, it was important to build a sustainable energy scenario with 20 identified solutions and following this scenario would make the energy demand increase at a lower rate of 7.2% and experience a decrease of 10.4% compared to the normal scenario by 2030.
Solutions which were suggested for enterprises involved in the wood processing sector were to select modern equipment and technologies, to carry out solutions related to demand management to reduce electricity costs and monitor energy use,... The Ministry of Industry and Trade was recommended to develop a circular on energy norm for this sector in the coming time.
Regarding promotion of green, clean and renewable energy in the economic sectors in general and seafood and wood processing sector in particular, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, General Secretary of VCCI highlighted the importance of the implementation of programs supporting the business community to achieve the sustainable energy development goal.
